Sought and Found

Psalm 23 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Entire books have been written about these six short verses of Scripture. The words are filled with depth of understanding and significant meaning for our lives as God’s people. And who better to pen these phrases than the king who spent the first years of his life shepherding his father’s sheep. Before David became king, he knew one thing very well and that was how to care...

The One Who Found Me

1 Peter 2:13-16; 21-25 13 Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, 14 or to governors as sent by Him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. 16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When He was reviled, He did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to Him who judges justly. 24 He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now retur...

Quintessential Lenten Reading

Isaiah 53:4-6 4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Chapter 53 of Isaiah is a must read for every believer during the season of Lent. It is completely miraculous that Isaiah penned these words 700 years before Jesus was even born. And yet they carry the essence of why Jesus came in fulfillment of God’s plan. This week we will be thinking about the fact that we did not see our need for a Savior and go looking for Him. Neither did Jesus stumble upon our need and fill it. His arrival upon the earth as a Man was God’s plan before Adam and Eve were even created. God knew that He w...
