Spared from Destruction
Prayer: “Preserve me, O God, for in You I take refuge. I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; I have no good apart from You.’ The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; You hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let Your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” [Ps. 16]

Think about It: Everyone dies – even Jesus. As the saying goes, so far the percentage rate is 100%. Even as young children we come to grips with the fact that this life is short and we are destined to dust. With one major exception – Jesus did not return to dust. Not even close.
Instead of destruction, Jesus was resurrected – brought back to a glorified existence beyond anything we could ever imagine. Remarkably, 1,000 years before Christ, David prophetically writes that His Holy One would not see decay; and because of that, while our flesh may indeed decay before the return of Christ, we too will be resurrected in bodily form, joining all believers for eternity with Him. David also affirms that we have a beautiful inheritance and that the [boundary] lines have fallen in pleasant places. Despite the struggles and trials of this life, our God is the perfect refuge and source of all good things. And even if things go badly, in the end, we are victorious because God’s Holy One was stronger than death, and sin, and the devil. Our future is secure and our present is in His capable hands. We have much to celebrate this holiday season.
Prayer: Dear Lord God, You alone have power over death and destruction. There is no safer place than in Your care. Please help me to remember that daily and to walk with full trust in You at all time. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
