Wisdom

Prayer: You are awesome God, Creator, Savior, and Friend. Be praised in my heart and on my lips today. Thank You for this incredible story of the Jesus' birth. Please speak through Your Word and teach me a greater love for You as together we look at my life and how I live it for You. Where I have sinned, bring conviction. Where I have pain, bring healing. And where I need truth bring   enlightenment. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Read: Proverbs 2:1–8

Think about It: What does wisdom have to do with the Christmas story? The answer is fairly obvious as the "wise men" are an integral part of the story. They earned the title of wise men by virtue of the office they held back in their home country (we don't really know exactly which country they come from) as advisers to the king. They had been instructed (by whom we don't exactly know) that when a huge star appeared, if they followed it they would find an important King. Although we do not know this for certain, there is some evidence supporting the belief that the prophet Daniel had shared with the Babylonians his knowledge of the coming Messiah and may have been responsible for the wise men coming to pay honor to the newborn King when alerted of His arrival by the presence of a star.

Wisdom has been and is still today valued by most cultures. The problem is that it is in short supply most of the time. Many believers wish for wisdom but don't actually bother to ask God to give it to them. What we know is that He will answer that prayer with a "Yes!" Hopefully, we all have people in our lives who exhibit godly wisdom. Those are the people who seek God's face and apply the knowledge they are given in a godly way. Wisdom is able to find answers that are creative and perhaps outside of what most people might come up with when given a problem. Wisdom asks God for answers and solutions where human understanding fails. Wisdom is a rare commodity and worth a great deal. Again - wisdom can be gained just by asking God for it! Wouldn't it be great if more of us took advantage of that gift and spent some time in prayer asking for it?

Prayer: Dear Lord, You promise in James 1:5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." I want to know Your    wisdom and live according to Your way. Please Lord grant that I would be filled with godly wisdom and able to apply it to my own life every day. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
