2013
If you look back at the post for January 1 or 2 from 2012, it will probably look very similar to this one! A part of our culture is to use the changing of the calendar year as an opportunity to make a few changes to our lives. We all know how to make and break a resolution. But that doesn't mean it's a bad practice. And of course, you know what I'm going to suggest - resolve to include God in more of your life. It seems like a simple thing - but it is not.
The Scriptures teach us the truth about ourselves. We are a fickle bunch. We know that prayer and Bible study are crucial to a healthy spiritual life. And yet what is the first thing to go when we get busy (or lazy)? Prayer and Bible study. The quoted line (and there appears to be no way to determine who exactly coined the phrase first) is "If the devil can't make you bad, he makes you busy." The Bible says that our enemies are the world, the devil, and our flesh. Daily we fight we each of those obstacles as we seek to live in a manner that bring glory to God and blessing to others.
Tomorrow, we jump back into our study of 2 Kings. In fact, we are almost finished with that book and will need to launch into something new in the next couple of weeks. Do you have anything in particular you would like to see address in this blog? If so, I'd be willing to entertain your ideas. In the mean time, resolve to let the Spirit of God empower a greater love for the Lord in your life. Ask the Spirit to draw you into devotions and Bible study. Resolve to make prayer your first response to daily life rather than a last ditch effort. And when you break that resolution, don't quit - start again. God's loves the 2nd chance. . . or 3rd, or 45th -- you get the idea.
