No Condemnation

Romans 8:1-4
1There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
2For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
3For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Today’s post comes with a challenge. It’s a simple challenge. Read the passage again; especially the first verse. Go ahead. Read it again.

Now go back and read it again.

One more time – read it again. In fact read verse one enough times so that you can recite it by heart.

These are Words with power; the power to encourage you, change you, and instruct you. Let the fact that in Christ you stand before a holy God without any fear of being condemned roll over you. Let that truth inform your day and transform your character. This is huge for God indeed has the right and the power to call you out on all of your sin. But because of Jesus He won’t.

One of Satan’s rolls throughout the Old Testament had been to stand before God and accuse people of their sin. (See Zechariah 3:1) He’s not wrong. We’re sinners. But when Jesus ascended into heaven Satan was kicked out of heaven forever. He doesn’t even get to stand there and accuse us before God’s throne anymore. There is no condemnation. When God looks at us He sees Jesus – perfect, holy, sinless Jesus. There’s nothing to condemn. And bear in mind that you did absolutely nothing to make that grace happen. It’s all God; His choice, His work, His grace. We are truly just recipients of this indescribably gift.

Do yourself a favor. Go back and read the passage again.
