God’s Plans are Final

Micah 7:14-17
14Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock of your inheritance, who dwell alone in a forest in the midst of a garden land; let them graze in Bashan and Gilead as in the days of old.
15As in the days when you came out of the land of Egypt, I will show them marvelous things.
16The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might; they shall lay their hands on their mouths; their ears shall be deaf;
17they shall lick the dust like a serpent, like the crawling things of the earth; they shall come trembling out of their strongholds; they shall turn in dread to the LORD our God, and they shall be in fear of you.

Micah calls on the imagery of Jesus the Good Shepherd at this point. The point of the Micah 7:8-13 that we read yesterday is expanded into the future where all of our needs are met by the Great Caregiver. Those who chose to deride God’s people will be dealt with – by God.

It is interesting that God’s judgement upon those who deny Him and treat His people badly is similar to that of Satan’s punishment in the Garden of Eden after The Fall. That reference cannot be missed in this passage.

Suffice it to say, God will take care of all Him people. There is no need for them to handle the situation on their own, for the Shepherd is the only one who can do so. Not only does the Father take care of His enemies (leaving us free of that responsibility) He also sent Jesus as our Good Shepherd who will take us to the places of provision and security. After Micah’s harsh words of judgement, we must bask in the promises of God for our futures, safe with the Shepherd.
