Simply Profound

Matthew 8:14-17

 The Bible is so utterly fantastic. Inside of four simple verses we find that Jesus is God. He is Master over illness and the demonic. There is no shouting or wild gyrations. He merely touches or speaks and His gracious will is accomplished.

 He finds Peter's mother-in-law is ill and brings healing. And that healing is complete. She doesn't need a couple of days of bed rest to get over the fatigue that a fever can bring. No, she gets up and serves dinner! Her restoration is so perfect she has energy to burn. Then, those who are demonically possessed are brought to Jesus and those demons are sent away with a Word. His authority is unquestionable and the proof of it lay in the way His commands are obeyed even by evil.

 But the real miracle of this passage is held in the quote of Isaiah 53:4. "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases." Jesus fulfills this prophecy probably hundreds of times during His earthly ministry. An actual record of those He healed, those He freed from the demonic, and those He fed wasn't really kept. Jesus carries all of our burdens and our sorrows straight to the cross where they were dealt with permanently. By His wounds, we are healed.

Psalm 121 1 I lift up my eyes to the hills.
